Very difficult to do your work without work arounds

I have spent the last week learning more about InfoPath with SharePoint because I have not found any solutions using Power Apps for creating forms. Anything I see so far revolves around mobile solutions with Power Apps and I think Microsoft has seen the error of their ways and will continue to support InfoPath until 2026, almost a decade which will work for me.

SharePoint:

Now about the work around’s; reading and learning InfoPath has been great, I haven’t yet created forms for use however I was able to publish the exercise form on my SharePoint site. To do this I needed to enable InfoPath services on my site at the same time enabling the use of a browser for the forms. I could not, temporarily, open the forms in the browser but waiting overnight allowed the changes I made to take affect.

Work however has made this difficult. I can publish the form to a SharePoint library but the browser enabled forms is not available on our SharePoint. Everyone will need the InfoPath Filler application on their machine in order for the form to work as is. There might be a work around by publishing the form to email and then submitting to SharePoint letting custom workflows with SharePoint Designer to take over the process from there. Who knows when I can get this form flow to start working. I would prefer to ‘NOT’ use an excel spreadsheet as a document then process the flow that way.

Unity, C#, Python and Blender

The assets I need for reviewing the book need to be very basic. Stick people and boxes for buildings etc. This review has been a pain with chapters coming out of order and walls of text for the code with no explanation of the code.

This last weekend:

Last weekend was  just O.K. I did a great job on cooking some light meals in the sodium, calorie and fat content and actually pretty good. I was able to splurge on a burger Sunday but need to cut back on other things. All in all the weight loss is going good and my burger did not have any lasting impacts in that area.

Next weekend WILL be spectacular.

Book Review Time Again

I was contacted by Packt Publishing again last week about a technical review of another book. This one titled Creating a RPG game using Unity 2018 Second Edition. As soon as I read that title I was all in. I started the first couple chapters this last weekend and have been surprised at how minimal the book describes some items. I’m glad to see they made a point to tell the reader, if you are not familiar with the Unity interface, stop reading now and get familiar. Diving head on into the deep end with this book could be very frustrating for people new to Unity. Looking forward to this book very much.

SharePoint:

Change tracking in the SharePoint site has been a big challenge for me. I, again, think I have a solution however it will take the use of some code in Access and a little finesse within SharePoint/Flow and maybe PowerApps to get this the way I envision it.

I upgraded my trial version of SharePoint Enterprise E3 to a full subscription with two users equaling 40.00 per month. I thought I would have to commit to a year but found I only need commit to a month at a time. I am very excited to do this and will be documenting everything I learn to do. Because I have been having so much trouble finding books on this subject, this just may be what I will be writing my books on. Can’t sit on my laurels to long though, someone might beat me to it.

Unity, C#, Python and Blender

With the new book review I will be starting up my activities in C#, Unity (of course) and possibly Blender by creating some of my own assets. As I create any assets I will most certainly post the pictures here.

This last weekend:

I loved this last weekend. Most of the evenings were very lazy watching movies. I finally was able to watch ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and loved it which put me in the mood for some Iron Man. I also watch Beetlejuice (old one but good) and started ‘The Martian’. I haven’t watched movies in a while and I really enjoy it. I do have some free movie tickets the office gave me for ‘Awards’. I think I’ll put those to some good use.

Lets have an entire month of work huh?

I can’t get a freaking break. I had my second full week of work last week and then this week starts off with all the plumbing in my apartment clogging up. I sure as crap am not paying 200.00 for a plumber to show up and then 120.00 per hour for them to work. I fixed it all my self, took me awhile to get it all done but I did it myself and am proud. Doing plumbing on the cabin with dad actually paid off.

SharePoint and Flu Update

Feeling much better this morning. This Flu hit our organization at my away from home job very hard, some manufacturing cells were short 7 people everyday for the last week.

My SharePoint education is going quite well. I gave another of our Mfg Engineers full control of the site as well as myself. He can take care of the tooling side and I’ll do the manufacturing side. One problem I found, the person setting up the site originally set the site up with multiple folders rather than lists and libraries. This poses some problem with apps, flows etc.. We will have to work together in order to fix this mess.

Waiting for Vacation

This is the last week of work prior to the Christmas break. I always have a lot of plans for the time I am off and I never get a chance to do any of them. This year will be different, I’ll finish the game, blender course in Udemy and start on my VR project with Unity and my apartment. Each of these should be very easy to complete and get started.

When it comes to Angie I am about fed up. I have spent a lot of money making sure she has a good Christmas and nothing I do is good enough. I am about to throw my hands into the air and give up on her. She said the divorce would happen in September, it is now December and I am pretty certain her last name is still Amsden. I pray everyday things will work out and I know God will answer my prayers as always but she is one of the most, if not the most frustrating person I know.

My family wants to have another get together at the cabin this year and need to know if I will be there. I received an email from Tyra Sunday needing an answer today. Because of that I really want to say no but I want to head out there.

Learn one thing well turned into two things and a GREAT Heart Rate Monitor

The two things are now ASP.NET MVC-6 and SharePoint. The SharePoint came from work and I’m not all that upset about it. I can still hone my skills in C# at the same time I am using that skill set and at the same time enhancing while I am at work. The best of both worlds.

Angie seems to be getting along ok without me getting a loan for her car. She was very sick and still had to move, hopefully she will be done by Tuesday because I don’t have her rent now that she has used it up for the move.

She has also turned on her phone number again, hope she keeps using it. She would never had had to do it if she did not turn it off to begin will but such is life.

I found my favorite workout tool. The Sosche Rhythm+ heart rate monitor. It cost me 79.00 (a lot more than that, explanation coming) but is well worth the time and money. Why did it cost so much? Chalk this up to your typical instant gratification syndrome. I wanted a heart rate monitor for use with my Peloton. Their monitor was 48.00 and I figured I could get one cheaper and better from Amazon and purchased a 28.99 and delivered on 10-20-2017. I gave it a couple of tries and it would barely sync to the bike. I then checked with Peloton and found one they recommended, a Garmin, purchased this and it was delivered on the 22nd. I opened the box and tried this that evening with basically the same results. This time the monitor paired with the bike but over 30 minutes showed a heart rate of 44 and a whopping 57 cal burned in 30 minutes. Note, both of these were of the chest strap kind and I really don’t like them.

This next time I decided to do some research and found one which was not a chest strap but you wear it on your forearm, no wetting of electrical contacts or the use of gels. I found a very large number of great reviews for this one and the less than positive review seemed more like user error than a problem with the device. Another plus was a review that specifically mentioned that it would pair with the Peloton instantly. I purchased this and in the mean time I also purchased Peloton’s own monitor (chest strap).

The monitor like I said earlier is the Sosche Rhythm+ and it is all everyone said it is. Paired instantly with my Peloton and matched the Fitbit heart rate precisely. This may have cost me 29.99 + 42.99 + 79.95 or 151.93 but it is well worth the actual cost of 79.95. Oh, the Peloton chest strap arrived on Saturday as well but I have not tried it out (It is a chest strap).

Have a great week and I’ll update you with how this item has fared throughout the week next Monday.

And the new year starts

What is up for this new year.

Number one on the list has to be lose the weight I gained which is to say get in shape and continue to do so as I was when I was in physical therapy after my heart attach. To do this I order a Peloton spin bike at 2400.00 this is an expensive gift to myself but on that I will enjoy. I enjoyed the stationary bike at therapy and have been complaining none of the weight rooms I have at the apartment or the hotel had them.

Number two will be the Project Management Professional certificate my boss mentioned late last year. If he meant it great I’ll do It as I have signed up for a course at Udemy for the same. If now I’ll still take the Udemy course then practice tests, then the real deal.

Number three is the book… I’m not sure of that direction as it has changed very much over the last year but I’ll set my direction and move forward.

Last but not least is the continued pursuit of Blender modeling, Unity Game creating and C#/Python programing. All of these last items I enjoy very much but have limited time to practice.

I think all of these can be accomplished this year with the first one a must if I want to go back to Seattle next Christmas.
